POCO M2 Unveiled in Indian a slightly different than the Redmi 9 Prime

Xiaomi the parent company of POCO has unveiled a new smartphone in the mid-range category in India. Earlier, it had confirmed through rumours after the launch of POCO M2 Pro back in July this year. Nothing to excited about the phone it is a slightly tweaked version of the Redmi 9 Prime or the Redmi 9 Global variant dubbed as POCO M2. The appearance of the back gets tweaked, it features a dual-tone matt finish.

The circular shape around the camera array slew to the matt finish from textured styling. The phone has shipped with MIUI 11 out of the box. However, the company has promised to avail an update to MIUI 12. Moreover, the MIUI 12 on the POCO M2 will be ad-free UI unlike the MIUI 12 on the Xiaomi and Redmi phones.

POCO M2 Price and availability

Though the phone is a rebagged version of the Redmi 9 Prime, it offers different storage option than the Redmi 9 Prime. The has arrived in India with two storage variant configured in 6GB+64GB and 6GB+128GB. While providing three colour options to choose from Bricked Red, Pitch Black, and Slate Blue. The base model 6GB+64GB is priced at ₹10,999 (around $150). Whereas the top model 6GB+128GB is priced at ₹12,499 (around $170). The Xiaomi hardly sells its products in open sales, the POCO M2 will go on its first flash sale on September 15. Exclusively available on Flipkart from September 15 at 12 noon.

Features and Specifications

Upfront, the device is built around an FHD+ resolution IPS LCD display of size 6.53″ with a waterdrop notch and the speaker grill on top centre. Besides, the screen has a 19.5:9 aspect ratio viewing experience protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection while having 400nits of peak brightness. Underneath the notch, there we have an 8MP selfie camera sensor. Around the pack, we have an array of quad-camera sensors along with the biometric scanner and an LED flash. The camera module consists of a 13MP main camera sensor, 8MP ultrawide sensor, 5MP macro sensor and a 2MP depth sensor.

Under the hood, there we have an octa-core system from MediaTek Helio G80 SoC. The SoC configured in 2XCortex-A75 at 2.0GHz & 6XCortex-A55 at 1.8GHz CPU cores fabricated in the 12nm process. Besides, it bundled with Malli-G52 MC2 GPU and 6GB of RAM along with the 128GB onboard storage. Further, the storage expansion support is given through a dedicated microSD card up to 512GB. The system on the phone runs on MIUI 11 based on the Android 10. It fueled by a 5000mAh battery while it draws power through a USB Type-C cable at 18W. However, the box did not include the 18W adapter, the regular 10W power adapter is included.

At the connectivity side, the phone has dual SIM support of 4G LTE/VoLTE and the Wi-Fi 5. The rest of the connectivity option includes a USB Type-C port, 3.5mm audio jack, Bluetooth 5.0, USB OTG. Fingerprint scanner (rear-mounted) and the other necessary sensors including the GPS, Compass etc.
