Samsung Galaxy A42 5G Announced the Company’s Cheapest 5G Phone

It seems like the company has done away with the 12-month cycling of launching phones. Its been four months since the Galaxy A41 releases into the market. In an attempt to make 5G cheaper and more accessible Samsung is reportedly working on the successor. The phone has been announced officially and expected to launch in fall 2020. The company has not shared many details but the key feature. The phone going to debut as the Samsung Galaxy A42 5G, with the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 690 at the helm. Hence it is being speculated as to the cheapest 5G phone from the existing Samsung 5G phones.

Including the Galaxy A42 5G, the company has now four 5G phones in the Mid-range category followed by the launch of the Galaxy A71 5G and the Galaxy A51 5G. The render of the Galaxy A42 5G is looking different than its siblings. Probably phone is in the initial stage more renders will be coming as it moves towards the launch. Though the leaks I have managed to get further details of the phone. While the official specifications are yet to be confirmed in the future.

Upfront, the phone is built around a Super AMOLED FHD+ resolution display of size 6.6″ inch with a dot notch and the biometric scanner underneath. The camera specs have not revealed yet but around the back, the phone has a square-shaped camera module. Instead of the rectangular-shaped camera module with quad-cameras aligned in L-Shape. The module is expecting a 48MP main sensor while the rest three are yet to be known.

Under the hood, the phone has Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 690 SoC. That seems real, the production of Samsung’s Exynos silicon has almost stopped. Qualcomm is there to power the device and is integrated with the next-gen modem. This SoC comes in a configuration of an octa-core system with 8XKyro 560 CPU cores fabricated in the 8nm. Besides, bundled with Adreno 619 GPU and LPDDR4x RAM alongside UFS 2.1 storage type support. The system runs on OneUI 2.1 on the top of android 10. While it draws power through a 5000mAh battery likely with 15W fast charging mechanism.

As far as the connectivity is concerned, Snapdragon 690 is the first SoC that ships with 5G. The has 5G connectivity alongside the Wi-Fi 6 (ax). The other connectivity including a USB Type-C port, 3.5mm audio jack, Bluetooth 5.0 and more.

Price and the availability

In terms of pricing, the phone will be available under $350 (around ₹25,600) for the 4GB-64GB variant. The 6GB-128GB model also could be introduced, that will be slightly expensive than the 4GB-64GB model. The availability of the phone has not confirmed, could be in the market in the fall this year.
